All a little mad,
a little pet,
a little star-crossed.
A story of war,
of crows and the moon and a mentor
in love with the pupil and chalk.
A rebel at day,
red-shirted at night—a muscle
that sticks and goes numb
like a spirit that walks
with a giant drug
in the heart.
A head that won’t stop
scooping scraps from the floor,
a jaw, a fool catching up
to the rogues all in love, to the darkhorses
all turncoat and run with the brand
new smell of old self-destruction.
